Greek Life is everywhere at Ole Miss whether its letters on a tank or a sorority sticker on a car driving by. Now panhellenic has made adjustments on future recruitment.

Many don't think its fair to change such a big tradition in rush.

I guess we will see in the fall if rush is affected by panhellenic's changes.

interview: The Lyric

This year many big bands have come to The Lyric on the square. In 2009 the venue made Pollstar Magazine’s top 100 venues in the world based on ticket sales. Since being put on that list even bigger names have been playing in Oxford, Ms. Mallory Maxson, a sophomore at Ole Miss has experienced many of the shows at The Lyric.

Me: So you have been to a lot of shows at The Lyric?

MM: Yes, I love going to concerts there. It is such a good venue because its two stories and the balcony is so fun because you can look down on to the stage.

Me: What has been your favorite performance that you have seen there?

MM: This February Bassnectr preformed on my birthday. It was amazing everyone at the concert was having the best time and Bassnectar is a great performer. It is so much more fun to see someone play that is actually enjoying themselves.

Me: What are some of your other favorite shows?

MM: I saw MGMT this October and they were so good. It was Halloween weekend and so the band dressed up in costumes. It was also really cool because there were a lot of locals there and not just college students. So it was kind of random but still a really good show.

Me: Were you surprised that big names come to such a small place like Oxford?

MM: I was so shocked when I first came here last year to find out that some of my favorite bands were going to be playing here. I feel like it is so random for bands to have shows here but clearly people totally support the bands and The Lyric because most shows get sold out.

Me: Are there any shows coming up that you are excited for?

MM: Well I am a recruitment chair for my sorority and that requires me to stay in Oxford for most of the summer so I am glad that bands still come in the summer. I am really excited to see Girl Talk in May. Some of my friends have seen them perform before and they all say they are amazing.

Me: Well it sounds like The Lyric will continue hosting big names with loyal fans like you around.

MM: I hope so! Going to concerts is such a great feeling because everyone is there for the same reason: to have a good time and enjoy the music. I think even better and bigger bands will come next year.
